My background...
I've had a diverse career working with small start up companies through to large multi-national brands.
I started my career as a freelance journalist. I then moved into full time news and sports journalism, then travel, first of all in planning, then customer relations, legal, quality, hotel safety and was also involved in training and motivating overseas resort staff. I've been responsible for introducing international customer service policies for a start up airline, and contributed to various industry working groups and committees. I have headed a multi-site sales and marketing operation for an award-winning business services company holding 4 Royal Warrants, and run the operations department of a UK government funded charity with 4,000 worldwide volunteers and a small team of salaried staff. I've been responsible for the development of sales and marketing strategies for a rapidly growing online travel agency with a franchise call centre network, and I was a director of a direct response media agency. So I have lots of practical experience at the sharp end of developing and implementing business strategies.
In summary, I've worked with or for Peterborough Ice Hockey Club, Electric Light Orchestra, Sharman Newspapers, Inghams Travel, British Airways, Debonair Airways, Dudley Stationery, British Executive Service Overseas/Voluntary Service Overseas, BeatTheBrochure.com and MNC.
I'm now a member of British Expertise and the Institute of Directors; an Associate Director of a London media agency, an ad production company and an email marketing specialist. I'm involved in two joint ventures: 360-Visions is a small business consultancy and Freedom to Fly provides cognitive behavioural therapy treatment to help people overcome phobias.
I am also a qualified landscape designer, a Fellow of both the Institute of Travel and Tourism and the Tourism Society and a Member of the Guild of Travel and Tourism. Additionally, I am a business adviser to Enterprise Enfield and the European Regional Development Fund.
